Nearly
600 people from the Northwest Synod of Wisconsin gathered in Assembly
May 30-31, at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
This year's theme, Book of Faith: Lutherans Read the Bible, came
alive as keynote speaker, Dr. Diane Jacobson addressed the group. David
Swartling, Secretary of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America,
brought greetings from Presiding Bishop Mark Hanson and the churchwide
organization.
New assistants to the
bishop, the Rev. Todd Iverson and the Rev. Amy Odgren were installed
during Friday evening worship.

This year's assembly
offering of $11,946.85 will be distributed evenly between our First Call
Debt Reduction Fund and Leader Training in Malawi. The $38,605.63
collected from the quarter offering will be given to food sustainability
efforts in Malawi and World Hunger. Hope Lutheran Church in River Falls,
Wisconsin, won the Big Cheese award for giving an average of $29.29 per
baptized member to World Hunger. The Extra Mile award was given to Bone
Lake Lutheran Church, Luck, Wisconsin, and to Larry Everson, St.
John's Lutheran Church in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, for going the extra
mile to support work that addresses local hunger needs.
All but one of the six
resolutions under consideration passed. It was determined that the
"Voting members on the Synod Council" resolution did not
comply with our constitution and, as a result, did not pass. For
